Lame Olebile

Lame Olebile is an African queer feminist with roots in Botswana, with over a decade of experience in queer feminist organizing, movement building, local and international advocacy and feminist philanthropy. She is currently the Senior Programs Officer with the Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice where she supports African queer feminist groups through grantmaking, capacity strengthening and philanthropic advocacy. Prior to joining the Astraea Foundation, Lame was a human rights projects officer with the Ngamiland Council of NGOs, she led a human rights education project on LGBT, the rights of people living with disability and children's rights in the North West district, supporting civil society organizations to strengthen their capacity to advance human rights. As the coordinator of Pan-Africa ILGA, she supported LGBTQI member organizations in Africa. Lame also worked in multiple capacities with the Lesbians, Gays and Bisexuals of Botswana, one of the positions including an organizational coordinator role. Prior to this role, she supported the Durban Lesbian and Gay Community and Health Centre in her role as the research and mainstreaming officer where she worked on queer women’s sexual health priorities. She spent five years as an adviser for the FRIDA, Young Feminist Fund where she also played the role of a co-facilitator of the Sub Saharan Africa advisory committee. She is currently an interim governance board member for the ISDAO, The West Africa Activist Fund. Lame has led several consultancy engagements including working on the Africa Integrity Indicators, with a focus on Botswana. She has collaborated with local civil society organizations such as the Botswana Center for Public Integrity and Letsema to deliver workshops on gender and economic justice, civic participation for youth and advancing women in political leadership.
